Bruce’s Summary: After being in the HR business for over 30 years it still amazes me that regardless of the number of legal statutes and laws we have on the books, saying what can and cannot be done the workplace, it all comes down to following some basic core management blocking and tackling techniques. The author does a good job keeping it simple and to the point.
The broad assumption within management still seems to be that Human Resources, regardless of the size of the organization, is somehow solely responsible for ensuring such activities, as described in this article, are driven to completion. Human Resources should be responsible for the coordination of such organizational activities but more importantly, build and maintain a partnership with their management counterparts and senior management in support of the organization’s strategic objectives and goals. A partnership means that all parties have skin in the game, take the highs and the lows and ensure that neither are surprised. Without this, as in the past, we will continue the cycle of making the same old resolutions each year. “None of the information contained herein should be construed as legal advice, nor are Calvin Associates consultants engaged to offer legal advice.
